Women’s Health
At Apollo Physiotherapy, our physiotherapists have undergone extensive post graduate training and have a wealth of experience in treating women’s health conditions such as chronic pelvic pain, bladder and bowel dysfunction and pelvic organ prolapse.
Chronic Pelvic Pain
Treatment of chronic pelvic pain is multimodal. A physiotherapy assessment will initially involve an assessment of the muscles of the pelvic floor, pelvic girdle, abdomen and low back. We will provide education regarding the underlying pain mechanisms. Chronic Pelvic Pain is often associated with dysfunction of the pelvic muscles, and treatment will usually involve manual therapy techniques such as Dry Needling and Specific Soft Tissue Mobilisation Techniques, along with a therapeutic
exercise programme aimed at restoring normal muscle balance and function.Bladder and Bowel Dysfunction
Bladder and Bowel Dysfunction
Bladder and bowel dysfunction may occur at any stage during your life and can include problems such as:
- Stress Urinary Incontinence
- Urgency and Urge Incontinence
- Chronic Constipation
- Faecal Incontinence
- Bowel Urgency
Physiotherapy treatment is aimed at retraining the muscles of the pelvic floor, along with teaching you strategies to retrain the normal reflexes that control the bladder and bowel.
Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Pelvic Organ Prolapse occurs when there is a weakness or deficiency in the muscles and tissues thatsupport the pelvic organs. This can lead to descent of one or more of the pelvic organs. Pelvic Organ Prolapse may involve:
- Uterus
- Urethra
- Bladder
- Rectum
- Small Bowel
Physiotherapy treatment involves rehabilitation of the pelvic floor and trunk stability muscles, along with postural retraining, with the aim of reducing symptoms and optimising your quality of life.
